I love to travel with and without my family, and having this blog has really opened up some new experiences. I can actually say I travel for work now. Needless to say, as a woman in her 40’s, staying regular while traveling is very important to me. There is nothing worse than feeling bloated and uncomfortable in a room of bloggers on the second day of a conference. Imagine getting up super early to catch a flight, not having real meals, and then eating out for 2 days. Your stomach is going to wonder what is happening. Here are four tips for staying regular while traveling.
- Drink plenty of water. Especially if you fly, dehydration can really play a big part in your digestive health.
- Manage Stress. Easier said than done. Traveling itself can be stressful, but adding on a big presentation or meeting a new client can really put your system into overload.
- Exercise. Most hotels have a gym. Set your alarm 30 minutes early and get a work out in. Even if you are visiting a big city, pack your gym shoes and explore the town in the morning when you’re not so busy.
- Eat enough fiber. Especially if I’m going to a conference and don’t have much control over your meals, I like to pack a box of Fiber One Bars. They are a tasty, quick and convenient way to add fiber into your diet. Gone are the days of eating cardboard-flavored bars! Say hello to delicious and fiber-full snacks with incredible flavors like Oats & Chocolate or Oats & Peanut Butter!
You can throw them in your purse and eat one in between meetings for some extra protein and fiber as well.
Who said adding fiber to your diet has to be boring? Fiber One bars are discreet and don’t require milk like high fiber cereals.
Nothing substitutes eating fresh fruits and veggies to get your daily fiber, but those are not always readily available or within your budget when you travel.
I even threw a few of the Fiber One Protein Bars in my tennis bag for my last trip away with my husband. It saved money buying an expensive snack at the hotel, plus it gave me the needed protein and fiber to stay regular this trip.
