Chloe was recently given the opportunity to review raw pet food from Primal Foods. Primal Pet Foods has been committed to elevating the health of your pets since 2001. Primal Pet Foods is a San Francisco, CA, based manufacturer of fully prepared, human-grade raw foods and treats for dogs and cats. Primal Pet Foods was founded with the goal of improving the quality of life and overall health and happiness of pets through wholesome raw foods that mimic the diet of animals in the wild. So let’s see what Chloe thinks….
I was not familiar with the benefits of feeding your dog raw pet food so I had to do a little research on my own. I found this blog post very useful from Paws Applause. On the post are the following 12 Benefits of Feeding Raw Pet food:
1.No doggy odor
2.Naturally cleans teeth – no need for toothbrushes, de-scaling jobs, or gum disease
3.The time it takes for a dog to chew a raw meaty bone gives their stomach adequate time to get the acids moving (not really in relation to this pet food method and makes me a little nervous)
4.Much less stool produced – and they are firm, and turn chalky after a couple of days
5.Decreased or non-existent vet bills
6.Less cost for dog food – commercial dog foods are expensive (Primal is a bit pricey considering how much you need to feed a larger dog like Chloe)
7.Mirrors what a dog would be getting in the wild – and certainly even the modern-day dog has a digestive tract exactly the same as a wolf
8.Puppies develop at a more appropriate rate – and quick growth spurts are avoided. This puts less strain on developing joints, fewer problems later
9.Balances blood sugars, lowers hyperactivity
10.They love to eat- no more “picky eater” (N/A for my dog that eats everything)
11.Maintains the natural digestive enzymes, aids in digestion (less gas, diarrhea, and constipation) (LESS Gas would be a treat)
12.Anal glands work as nature intended (Not sure I want to know about this)
Primal Turkey Liver Munchies Freeze-Dried Dog & Cat Treats
All Primal Treats are single-source proteins and offer a healthy choice for all pets, especially those with food allergies. Primal treats are recommended as a snack alternative, as well as for training and obedience rewards. Chloe is not a picky eater but knowing we are giving her treats that are natural and beneficial works great for training a food motivated dog. These are a little big for training treats however, break them up.
- Turkey raised in the United States without antibiotics or added hormones
- Single-source protein
- Healthy treats for dogs and cats–Not sure what my cat thinks, must break them up smaller
- High-protein snack
- No preservatives
- Grain and gluten free
- No added salt or sugar
Primal Freeze-Dried Formulas offer you the convenience and benefits of a well-balanced, safe and wholesome raw-food diet without having to grind, chop, measure or mix the ingredients yourself. While this all sounds wonderful, this food is better than what I feed my kids. The ingredients are all organic and filled with amazing veggies and proteins. Chloe would need 24 nuggets of this pet food each day which can get pricey. I like the idea of maybe doing half and half so I know she is getting all the necessary vitamins. My husband was a little grossed out when I was preparing the nuggets as well.
Key Benefits of this Freeze Dried Pet Food.

Chloe licked her bowl clean with each meal of the Primal Pet Food. Basically dragging it accross the floor to get each flavor off the bowl. We are going to work harder to feed her more raw foods and knowing brands like Primal Pet Food is out there will make the transition easier. Primal Pet Food also comes in frozen varieties but I think as a beginner I don’t mind the freeze dried.
