Dollar Store Crafts Idea: DIY Summer Flip Flops

This dollar store crafts idea is a great project for kids to help with. It takes little supervision, and since there are no scissors or glue involved it’s safe for any age. Younger kids may have a tough time tying the balloons, but it’s also a great way to work on fine motor skills with your kids.

We choose a simple dollar store pair of flip flops and a couple bags of water balloons. You can do this with any flip flop if you prefer to use a higher quality brand, but the idea here is to keep it budget friendly.

Supplies Needed to make Waterballoon Flip Flops:

You can choose any color combination you prefer. In keeping with the patriotic 4th of July theme, I did blue with a red, white, and blue flip-flop.

This dollar store crafts flip-flops are so cute and fun to wear especially at camp and swim meets. All you basically need is an old or inexpensive pair of flip-flops with a thin strap and about 200 water balloons. I shopped at my local dollar store and basically spent about three dollars.

I choose blue and navy blue balloons so they could match my pool, camp, and Fourth of July. But really you can use any color you want. I recommend doing more than one color to add a little flair.

To make the flip flops all you have to do is tie the balloons on the flip flop strap. Nothing really special. If you are doing more than one color, I recommend alternating the balloons in a pattern, or just choose random colors with no purpose is cool too.

This part is great for kids to do and learn not only coordination for tying the water balloons, but also combinations and pattern for the balloons.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO MAKE BALLOON FLIP FLOPS?

They take about 30 minutes to make when using an average adult flip flop. This dollar store crafts idea would be a perfect way to get kids busy while you are preparing things for a summer weekend barbecue with friends and family. Simply set up a table full of supplies and let them have fun creating their own unique looks.
