How to Cut a Watermelon

Have you ever wonder how to cut a watermelon? The thing I love most about Summer is the abundance of fresh fruit that is available. There is nothing like that first seedless watermelon that we bring home, it is so sweet and flavorful you are just hoping for summer break. There are many ways to cut a watermelon but I thought I would share some simple ways to cut both a watermelon so you can spend more time eating them and not cutting them. Buy the biggest watermelon this year, as I have some awesome watermelon recipes for you to try. Maybe not the biggest watermelon you can find but you will want to buy several over the summer season as at the uses for watermelon is endless and delicious.

Here is one great way to learn how to cut a watermelon for perfect slices.

This method of how to cut a watermelon is great if you are going to cut the entire watermelon at once. If not just cut it in half, with the skin on and store half of the watermelon in your fridge. It will be less messy this way.

How to cut a watermelon

Start by cutting off the ends of your watermelon so you can sit it up right.

Starting from the top down, start cutting the rind off around the entire watermelon.

Continue until the entire watermelon is free of the rind.

Then cut the watermelon in half, which makes it more manageable to cut into slices.

You can then quarter the watermelon and cut in the desired size slices. If a little white is left on, you can use a pairing knife to trim this off.

  3. I usually do it rind on, just because it’s easier for my toddler to hold…less slippery.

  4. That’s an interesting way to cut a watermelon. That would save a lot of the melon, as compared to the way I generally cut it up.
