How to Decorate a Woodland Inspired Dining Room

I am a creature of habit when it comes to home décor. However this past spring, we did a little redecorating in our home. We transformed our playroom into a family room, and we also changed up our dining room a bit by swapping out rugs. With these changes, my holiday decorations probably won’t look as they always have. I have a large sideboard in my dining room that typically lacks in décor and usually is just a spot to store platters. Not this year; I am going to show you how to decorate the dining room in a woodland theme this Christmas.

I headed to Big Lots and was amazed by the amount of holiday decorations I found. From inflatables (maybe later this season I will tackle the front porch) to artificial trees, to lights and food — I had no idea Big Lots was a one stop shop!

I spent more than an hour looking at the wide array of stunning holiday and seasonal décor items at Big Lots and was amazed by the high quality and reasonable prices of the products. While there, I learned that Big Lots has declared Nov. 16-22 as National Decorate Your Home for the Holidays Week. So, I guess that means I am participating  by decorating a room in my home with high quality décor available at my local Big Lots!”** available at my local Big Lots!

While roaming the aisles, I was truly inspired by the woodland collection that was featured at my store. I picked up what I thought would create a beautiful sideboard to not only get me through Christmas, but also some of the winter as well.

side board decor

How do decorate this side board, you will need to clear everything off. Yes, that means finding other hiding places for all those platters, etc. Lay out a runner the length of the side board.

adding garland to centerpiece

Start by layering a piece of evergreen garland down on the runner, weaving it slightly.

Then, add two laterns at the ends. Big Lots even had the LED candles I wanted to use. I added these adorable ornaments too.

Start filling in the other spaces with themed statues, such as this reindeer and snowman I found.

Buy some extra ornaments and fill in the empty spots.

decorating a mirror

Don’t forget about the mirror above your side board — that needs some holiday sprucing too. I found hangers at big lots and used them to attach the ribbon.

Otherwise, drape the woodland garland over the mirror.

It was hard to get the right photo of the entire visual, but you get the idea here.

I carried the theme to the other side of the room. I picked up one of their 3-feet trees, as well as more woodland themed ornaments. This tree is pre-lit, making it especially easy to assemble.

I love the burlap ribbons that you can hang or clip too.

I hung a fun chalkboard print above the tree to complement the fun chalkboard ornaments I also found at Big Lots. I’m not sure where I will put the light-up snowman face, but for now he is staying by the tree. What do you think?
