Being a giant isn’t about being the biggest or the best. Being a giant means standing up for others. It means lending a hand to those who are in trouble and speaking up for those who sometimes find it hard to speak up for themselves. I have decided to join in this campaign and write a letter to my children and to encourage all my wonderful readers to do the same. There is too many easy ways to bully these days.
Growing up in your generation is going to be tough I have not doubt about this. It was hard enough when Dad and I grew up with kids bullying. It was easier to identify as the bully had to do it face to face and now parents and kids have to worry about cyber-bullying. This may seem like a subtle and not intended as much, but it is really not fair and often goes unnoticed for others leaving the victim alone and depressed.
I am confident that we have raised you all to not be involved in bullying another child but will always worry that you will be a victim. I know at least one of you have stood up for another child in your school who was being bullied and hope you will all continue to stand up for other children you may see this happening to. I also hope that you will not feel the peer pressure to get involved in this foolish act and remember what it would feel like to be on the other side.
Dad and I think you are all so special and never be afraid to come to either of us when you feel a little sad or if someone is making fun of you and it has become too much.
We love you
Mom and Dad
