Since we had a big time over Christmas break on the Disney Cruise and my kids now have 2 different Spring Breaks, we are going to have a Staycation this week. Most of you are familiar with the term Staycation, you basically stay in your hometown but make the most of it. Having 2 busy boys at home for the week, we are going to have to get creative.
During the school week we always feel rushed to get dressed and get the children off to school and are regular duties. Since my kids don’t sleep in, even during vacation, I thought I would have a mommy/kid play date late morning and invite the moms to come over in their PJ’s, well don’t know about you but those are usually black yoga pants and a top!! (please no skimpy teddies!)
I really want this play date to remain casual and no need to rush out and get dressed, just come over for some yummy coffee and sweets. Best part of it, I am not doing anything but put the coffee grounds into the coffee maker and press start. For this play date I am running to Walmart and Paring Starbucks Caffe Verona Coffee with Walmart Bakery Chocolate Chip Cookies. Why so specific? Keep reading to find out.
We usually buy the same brand of coffee unless we read an article or hear about
something new from a friend. While shopping at Walmart I was immediately drawn toward the Delicious Pairings sign hanging above the bakery. After reading it I really loved the description of the Caffe Verona Coffee: Complimentary notes for Starbucks Caffe Verona are: milk and dark chocolate, caramelized sugar. Yummy sounds like a chocolate chip cookie and milk type of day. A little turned off with the pairing of Roasted Vegetables. I am just not a dinner coffee drinker.
That very idea lead me to purchase the chocolate chunk cookies from Walmart Bakery. Who does not like Chocolate Chip cookies?? Better yet no mess in the kitchen!!
I was a little confused as the Delicious Pairings display was hanging right over the fresh donuts display. I get it Coffee and Donuts but thought the descriptions were more sophisticated than a glazed donut. Just an observation. I have only seen this display at one of our local Walmart stores, both have bakeries and sell Starbucks coffee.
Now for the taste test...Of course I need to try these items out before I have my girlfriends over. I would not want to serve them a bad cup of coffee or sweet? Let alone a bad coffee and dessert pairing. LOL.
I first tried the Starbucks Caffee Verona coffee on its own. Fairly smooth and rich. No burnt after taste in this blend.
I then took a bite of the Walmart Bakery Chocolate Chipcookie… Decent flavor,a little on the sweet side. The cookies have a touch of salt and were chewy.
Then together.… Wow the coffee and cookie flavors really melded. I was a little skeptical before I tried this combination but wow they really do compliment each other. My husband who later snuck a cookie said wow the cookies taste so much better with the coffee. Our taste buds are amazing things.
Unlike wine, I usually never think to pair my coffee with a compatible food. It is usually a choice of decaf or regular, and sugar or cream. Learn something new every day!
I normally do not buy coffee from Starbucks, I brew it at home unless I am traveling or meeting a friend. However, now that they have all these different flavors and descriptions I will definitely be coming back to Walmart to purchase my coffee and get ideas for dessert pairings. My next dinner party I will be making a dessert to compliment the coffee I am serving.
I also love that the flavors come in whole bean and grounds as well as decaf or regular.
What things will you be doing on Spring Break? WIll you be spending your spring break in Florida or on a Staycation? Any fun Play date Ideas I can borrow?
