Now that football season is over I thought I would gain my TV and family time back. NO way not in our house. With my son playing on a recreation basketball league and college and professional basketball games already in full gear, I have lost the contest.

So if you can’t fight them, join them right!! Since I can usually throw a slam dunk in the kitchen I thought I would mix up our game time grub and create this low Fat Steakhouse Appetizer Hack using Alexia Foods that we so love.

Low Fat Steakhouse Appetizer Hack for Game Time Grub

For game time this weekend we made a low fat version of a famous steakhouse appetizer, you know it has onions and it blooms… Instead of going thru the tedious steps to create the giant onion, we substituted Alexia’s Onion Rings. They are so flavorful and you bake them to reduce some calories.

The steakhouse flavor comes from the  easy to make dipping sauce. Since game time grub usually is full of snack food we thought we would reduce the calories and fat in our sauce without jeopardizing any flavor.

HOW TO MAKE LOW FAT ONION RING DIPPING SAUCE

We used Low -fat mayonnaise and non-fat Greek yogurt in our version. I made it while no one was home to see my substitutions and no one noticed!! Score MOM!

For a fun display we added some olives in our onion ring dip bowl to look like a basketball.

Originally I was thinking I would create a maple and mustard dip for the sweet potato fries but ended up using it for both the crinkle fries and Alexia sweet potato fries.

Mix things up for your basketball viewing party, we served the french fries in individual cups so everyone could get a little sample of each flavor. Just put a little parchment paper in a plastic cup and you have a great french fry serving idea.

Game Time Grub is not complete without dessert, we had to make some Basketball covered cookies on a stick. Everything is better on a stick don’t you think.

We found everything we needed for the entire game time grub basketball party at our Walmart store, including the striped napkins and Alexia Foods.
