Super Easy Homemade Treats for you Dog

We have updated this super easy homemade dog treat recipe since it was first published in 2012.  Our sweet girl is gone but she is always in our hearts.

So yes I am becoming one of those crazed dog people. How can you not love this face, now 6 months old and a whopping 50 pounds. Be sure to check out our complete list of HOMEMADE DOG TREAT RECIPES

For Valentine’s Day this year we skipped the heart shaped cookies for the kids and made homemade dog treats for the Chloe.

I was a little tired of searching and paying for wholesome treats for the dog, and she likes her treats. You might say she is completely motivated by food.

I did not know where to start so of course I went straight for the internet. There are many different dog treat recipes out there, some more complicated than others.

WHAT INGREDIENTS DO YOU NEED TO MAKE HOMEMADE DOG TREATS

I found the most simple and few ingredients possible for my first attempt.

  • Peanut Butter
  • Quick Oats
  • Baking Powder
  • White whole wheat Flour
  • Milk

Peanut butter was an obvious choice for Chloe who people have witnessed she comes out of a total dead sleep when a tub is opened in a far room.

Ingredients most of us have at home

Thanks to the multiple options on www.dogtreatrecipes.org  I was able to find one. Needless to say the Name was “Super Easy PB dog Treat recipe“. Super and easy some of my favorite words these days.

The kids helped me cut out heart, bone, star and even cat shapes!! (we have a cat and she would probably rather eat the dog!)

To make them more decorative, add eyes or adornments with a toothpick.

No real cats where harmed in making this post!!

My husband came home while they were baking and thought they were peanut butter cookies. I did check on them early and they were pretty brown, I would check on them at 10-12 minutes just in case.

Make sure to check the post for other helpful comments, ie they don’t form well when using natural peanut butter.

These recipe makes a lot you can probably freeze them, as I am not sure of their shelf life. We packaged up a few baggies and brought them to Chloe’s neighbor friends for Valentine’s Day.

She is so well behaved for food!!

Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes

5 ingredient homemade dog treats

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 TBSP baking powder
  • 1 cup peanut butter (smooth only, please)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup oatmeal

Instructions

Start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees and lightly greasing a baking or pizza pan.

Once that’s mixed, add the peanut butter and milk. Stir it together until a dough forms.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, knead it and then roll it out until it’s about a 1/4″ thick. Break out your cute bone-shaped cookie cutters or a pizza cutter and cut the dough into the desired size and shape.

Bake those on the lightly greased baking pan and cook for about 20 minutes or until they’re golden brown.

Once cool, let your favorite pup enjoy before storing them in an airtight jar (or resealable freezer bag).
