Thanks to Tides Inn for hosting my husband and I for a great couples getaway.

We have lived in Richmond, VA for 16 years and have never been to Tides Inn Resort. We had heard great things about it but never ventured that way. This year the kids were headed to camp for a week, and unlike last year when we celebrated our 15th Anniversary in Turks and Caicos, we needed to stay closer to home . We took a quick drive from Richmond, VA  to the Northern Neck of Virginia and enjoyed 2 nights at the Tides Inn Resort. It was like a camp for adults, although there were plenty of kids there as well.

After all the shark attacks in North Carolina I was feeling pretty excited we were headed to a “creek” instead of an ocean. We found ourselves surrounded by beautiful water, lots of greenery, friendly staff and enough activities to keep the most competitive of couples entertained.

While I love my kids, I have loved my husband longer and every now and then need to get away from the kids and remind ourselves what it is like when we are dating. Soon enough the kids will be out of the house and if we don’t grow as a couple, we will feel lost as empty nesters. (At least this is what I keep telling my husband so we can take these couple getaways).

The rooms at the Tides Inn are floral in nature but remind you that you are at the river. The greens transfer to the views of the abundant greenery surrounding the property. Our room was in the main building and was very spacious and the bathroom also large, updated and clean. We were on the second floor and could hear those above us so I would ask to be on the top floor if possible. Other than that the rooms were quite and beds very comfortable.

The Tides Inn and Marina offers everything in the name. Land and water sports as well as a quaint spa to really relax. After a day of tennis, golf (a short par 3 course right on property that’s free), corn hole, paddle boarding and bike riding (to name a few of the free activities)  we were ready to take a break at the spa and relax. (Something neither of us are very good at). There is a $28 per room resort fee but you get your money’s worth with all the options available.

There is a nice pool and little beach area for kids to play. There is also a grassy area that has may lawn games and a quite sitting area. This is where we enjoyed a glass or two of champagne after competing at both tennis and golf our first night there.

We ate at the Chesapeake Club Restaurant where I enjoyed a Lancaster Lemonade, Tides Inn Signature drink. Very refreshing.

You must try the Angry Oysters and Caprese  watermelon salad,  if in season. Many of the herbs are grown by the hotel’s manager but a lot of the ingredents are locally sourced. Most importantly, the Oysters.

The dark and stormy drinks by the pool were some of the best we have had and the burger we shared was cooked to perfection. A perfect way to enjoy a late lunch water side.
