Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies is a new take on the traditional chocolate chip cookie. I found my recipe as part of the secret recipe club. It is that time again, to reveal our Secret Recipe Club recipe. For those of you new to this club concept, each month we are assigned another blog and secretly find a recipe post that we would like to try and then reveal our experience with their recipe.
I was assigned to Crumbs and Chaos blog
that has tons of great and easy recipes for moms like me. I plan on going back soon. I was intrigued by the Browned Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies
because I have never tried browned butter in a recipe before. I have a friend who makes amazing chocolate chip cookies and her secret is melting the butter so I was immediately interested.
I have never browned butter before and not sure if this is normal but it was splattering quite often. The batter was also a little more gooey than traditional recipes but mainly because it was warm. We found it easiest to use a small ice cream scoop to ease the mess.
BEWARE: The dough is addicting. Cookie dough tastes good but how about adding warm cookie dough.
I made you a plate, want a bite? Well worth the calories. Thumbs up all around our house that day!
Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
Ingredients (about 3 1/2 dozen) We made exactly 3 dozen using a small ice cream scoop.
- 1 3/4 cups FLOUR ( I used half white whole wheat flour)
- 1/2 teaspoon BAKING SODA
- 1/2 teaspoon SALT
- 14 Tablespoons BUTTER
- 1/2 cup SUGAR
- 3/4 cup BROWN SUGAR, packed
- 1 Tablespoon VANILLA EXTRACT
- 1 EGG
- 1 EGG YOLK
- 1 cup CHOCOLATE CHIPS
Preheat oven to 375°. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium-high heat. Swirl the pan as it continues cooking, it will foam and bubble and eventually turn a dark golden brown and have a nutty aroma. Watch it closely, this will take about 2-3 minutes. Pour brown butter into a large heatproof mixing bowl.
Add sugars and vanilla, mix well. Add egg and egg yolk, whisk until fully combined. Stir in flour mixture and then chocolate chips. Drop by tablespoons onto baking sheet, bake for 10-11 minutes or until just golden. Cool on wire rack.
