Unexpecting– Book review and Blog Tour and Giveaway by Lori Verni-Fogarsi

Have you ever been into a book and become emotionally involved with the characters? Do you find yourself screaming at characters and judging their behavior? If you have not had that experience, then you need to get a copy of Unexpecting by Lori-Forgarsi.

I am soo excited to be part of this blog tour and introducing this great book.

I will not provide any spoilers on this book but here a brief description of“Unexpecting”: Shelley and David are a couple of almost-empty-nesters preparing to embark on the next stage of their lives. They just ordered white furniture and planned the vacation they’ve waited their entire lives to take when Alexandra, seventeen and pregnant, shows up on their doorstep and announces that she’s the daughter they never knew they had! They go through many changes and their life has to take on a different course to accommodate this addition.

Big question I dealt with the entire time I read this book, and it did not take long as I hardly put it down, was “would I make the same choices as Shelly and David?”

Here is a little background on the author: Lori Verni-Fogarsi has been an author, speaker, and small business consultant since 1995. She has been featured in media including “Lifetime Women’s Network,” the “My Carolina Today Show,” and “Boston Globe Forums Live.” Her public speaking has occurred at many prestigious venues including “North Carolina State University,” “Nassau Community College,” and many more. She has received two awards for her novel, “Momnesia,” and her nonfiction, “Everything You Need to Know About House Training Puppies and Adult Dogs,” continues to be one of the most highly recommended in its genre since 2005. Lori is a happy married mom of two, step mom of two more, and has two cats, both rotten. She is very excited about the release of “Unexpecting,” and enjoys getting to know her readers via social media and in person. She invites you to learn more at www.LoriTheAuthor.com.

Lori and I also did a little Q&A to learn more about her move into becoming a published author and motivation behind this book as well as how to become a better writer and blogger.

1. How long have you been writing and at what point did you realize it was not just a hobby but a career?
Strangely, my writing career started unintentionally, back in 1995 when I was a single gal, owned a dog training school, and started a company newsletter to market to clients, vets, etc. I was surprised when I started receiving requests from other publications, asking me to write for them, too! Over the years, my career has progressed to include many newspaper and magazine articles, a syndicated weekly newspaper column, one nonfiction book, two novels, my blog, and more.

As for when I realized that it was not just a hobby, but a career, I would have to say that that transition came when I divorced my first husband around six years ago. It was an amicable divorce and at the time we owned a dog training school together, while I also did public speaking, writing, and business consulting as well. We mutually agreed that in order for us to each be able to pursue a successful career and continue to make a living, that he should keep the dog training school and I should pursue the writing, speaking, and consulting full-time, which I did.

2. What inspired the characters in this book?
My characters were inspired by the need to create a story that would be entertaining while speaking to readers’ minds and hearts. Most of their personalities are a potpourri created from my own imagination, taking bits of traits from the many people I know and combining them to make new “people” who are not exactly the same as anyone in the world. I am very thankful to the many, many teenagers in my life who unknowingly contributed to several of the characters’ personalities!

3. What advice to you have for the mom/dad bloggers out there who are writing their story each day on a blog and may want to publish one day?
My advice would be to remember that being a reputable author is a slow and agonizing process. It is very rare that a new author rises to multi-millionaire stardom overnight! In my opinion, the best way to move forward is by taking your time writing, rewriting, and rewriting, and being sure to put out quality, professionally edited books, so that readers will want to recommend you to others as well as look for your future works.
