Refreshing Summer Cocktails–Guest Post

Refreshing Summer Cocktails–By Guest Host Stacey from Newlywed Survival Tips.

My husband and I love a good cocktail when we go out to eat. Whatever the restaurant has for a special is always what my husband will order. He enjoys trying to figure out exactly what is in the drink and how he could make it at home. This has led to some great drinks that we now feature at parties. Here are a couple of ideas my husband has adapted from restaurant favorites.

Summer Sensation

This drink is based off of the “Big Bad Erma” at Max & Erma’s restaurant.

1oz vodka
1/2 oz Pomegranate Schnapps
Sprite (or Sprite Zero for less calories)

1. In a highball type glass pour the vodka and Pomegranate Schnapps. Top off the glass with Sprite.
2. Shown with blueberries as a garnish – for a patriotic color combination!

Dirty Ocean Martini

This drink is based off of a Dirty Ocean Martini at our local mexican restaurant.

2oz vodka
1/2 oz Blue Curacao
1/2 oz Chambord

1. Pour the vodka, Blue Curacao and Chambord into a cocktail shaker over ice. Cover, and shake until the outside of the shaker has frosted.
2. Strain into a chilled martini glass to serve.

Crystal Light Mojitos

This is for those who prefer a non-alcoholic beverage but still enjoy the taste of a cocktail. We just attended a party where the hostess was pregnant, and she had these great non-alcoholic mojitos. I asked her what was in them, and she said it was just a new Crystal Light product. She made a pitcher of it, crushed mint leaves in a glass and added the drink. It was so good! Apparently, they have a few different flavors – she had one that was a margarita too.

Enjoying a nice refreshing cocktail can help take the edge off of a hot summer night. Do you have any favorite summer cocktails?
