Best Place Stay At Snowbird Ski Resort for Families

While we were planning our Spring Break trip, my kids had decided on taking a family ski trip. My husband googled “best ski resorts for Spring Break”. Snowbird and Alta came up as great locations with plenty of snow during the spring.

My kids spring break is always the first week of March. I started researching family friendly accommodations at both Alta and Snowbird. While I am not a travel agent we are pretty picky and require extra space for a larger family.

Before you book a family ski trip to Snowbird or ALTA, you must keep in mind these are not large ski resorts with multiple options. In fact, you are typically going to Alta or Snowbird because your main goal is to ski, eat and sleep. (There are not many restaurants and no nightlife so you must be ok with this. )  Alta offered some all-inclusive (well meal inclusive) options that were pretty pricey.

When we booked our trip this winter for a March Spring Break, most accommodations were already booked at both locations. That is when I decided to explore Snowbird a little further. My husband was weary since he thought the skiing was too technical for our once a year skiers.

For about half of the price of the Alta accommodations, I found a loft with a kitchen,  two bathrooms, two queen beds and a pull out sofa at the Lodge at Snowbird.

Just steps from the ski center, the price included lift tickets for two adults during our stay, transportation to and from the airport and my youngest (11 yrs old) could ski free. Best part you could easily ski to ALTA from this location as well which was very important to my husband since he would be going there alone with the kids for 2 days.

The airport transportation was very convenient and even stopped at a grocery store so my husband could stock up on snacks and some frozen pizzas to get them through to my arrival. (I showed up two days later since I was not planning on skiing) .

I rented a car for my arrival since we were headed to southern Utah afterward, but you do not need a car at Snowbird. They even offer a free shuttle to the grocery store in the afternoon. All the rooms faced the mountain and their first night there,  got 36 inches of snow overnight.

As a result, my family never left Snowbird. They hired a guide the first day and since there was so much fresh powder my husband joined them to get the lay of the mountain.

All the properties are super convenient and my family was able to quickly come back to the room to get lunch in the room and take a break. Another great way to save money when traveling as a family.

When I arrived I made dinners that I had ordered from Hello Fresh. Having meal kits delivered to your travel destination has become a lifesaver. You get exactly what you need to make the meal and you don’t have to worry about forgetting an

ything at the grocery store.

I simply picked up one chicken breast and another pork chop since many of these kits only serve 4.

The Lodge at Snowbird was super family friendly and even had a wine and cheese reception one night. If you are serious about skiing and want to save money on meals this a great location for a family ski trip.

Nonskiers on a Family Ski Trip

Things to do in Snowbird For nonskiers

head to the Snowbird activity center, located in the center and either go on their 1 pm snowshoeing tour or rent the equipment and head to the trailhead yourself. I actually did both since the first day the trail was not yet set after the big snow so my daughter and I went with a guide.

The second day I simply rented snowshoes and poles and went back to the trail that we blazed the previous day.

Such an amazing work out.

SPA AT SNOWBIRD RESORT

You can also schedule a treatment at the spa at Snowbird. You have to pay a $30 a day fee as a hotel guest to access the spa amenities and/or classes, so why not just get a treatment and spend several hours there… Seemed like a plan to me. Or just hang out at the hotel pool where there is no one until about 3 pm.
