Best Tips for Hosting a Stress Free Party

As part of the Blogher Life Well Lived group I was posed with this weeks question:

Question: What is your best tip for hosting a gathering, get-together or party that is enjoyable and stress-free for both the host and guests?

When ever I am hosting an event, which seems to be at least once a month, I try to make out the menu ahead of time. By writing down all the courses, items I am going to make or ask for, I can really visualize if I think it is enough food and then ultimately make a grocery list. If I am finding recipes in cookbooks I make sure and write the book and page number for quick reference.

Then the night or so before I lay out all the glasswareand serving pieces I will need to use. Add a little post it note on the dish with the item it is being used for,  so you are not fumbling while you are making the dishes.

Parties are supposed to be fun for you and the more you host the easier it becomes. If you are new to hosting events at your house, keep them even easier with pot luck events so your preparation is minimal. Also use a mix of purchased and homemade items so you are not exhausted by the time your door rings.

Keeping a theme to the event, such as mexican or heavy appetizers, makes planning easier.
