Easy Memorial Day Table Decorations

When I think of Memorial Day, Fourth of July or even Labor Day, the colors of red, white and blue strike me. In honor of our military This year we are having a BBQ with  a few families. Including my husband there will be 3 men who served or currently serving in the military.

Even though the children will be out numbering the adults for this event, I wanted to add some classy Memorial Day Table decorations for the adult table that were easy and not that expensive. I saw this idea on Pinterest but wanted to make it as a table top decoration and more importantly something for candles.

Memorial Day Table Decorations

This is a very inexpensive decoration that will last through Labor Day.

For 3 Patriotic candle arrangements you will need

  • one bag of red Kidney beans. (dark red if you can find them)
  • 1 bag white northern beans
  • 1 bag black beans
  • a votive holder
  • a vase

I  made these two ways and was happier with the second one. However, making the mistake means sorting through hundreds of beans.

For the first variety, you can just layer the beans up to a few inches of the top of your vase. Then just press the votive as far as you can. I did not like the height of the votive  but super easy.

For the second variety, I added a few kidney beans, then placed the votive inside the vase. I covered it with Saran wrap first.

Then you carefully layer the rest of the beans until you reach the top of the votive holder.

Here are the Memorial Day table decorations all lit. I like these memorial Day Table decorations better than my first attempt!

If you are going to use this again, I would use the tea lights in the steel containers so you don’t have to worry about taking out the votive container to get out any extra melted wax. Also you can put Saran wrap onto of the vase to keep any dust/bugs out of the it.

Don’t need a candle because your BBQ is during the day, you can add flowers in the votive holder!

Now to plan the menu! What do you think of mostly when you think of Memorial Day Barbecues?
