Family Outdoor Adventures in Gulf County Florida

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Visit Gulf County Florida for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

If you have been following my blog and read any of our travel posts, you may have come to the conclusion we don’t sit around when we go on vacation. While a bit of relaxation is necessary of course, with the three kids and often dog, we tend to have planned adventures to keep us occupied and to share a new adventure with the kids. When the kids turned 8 we stopped giving birthday and Christmas kids in the form of stuff! No toys or junk that they will simply move to the side and get bored of. We started giving them experiences that we hope will become lasting memories, long after the toys they were given break or donated.

gulf-county-florida Gulf County Florida is not a far drive from Virginia and it has been several years since we explored it with the kids. After checking out all the amazing Outdoor Adventures available there all year long, I am looking forward to exploring that area once again and getting my kids these experiences as Christmas Gifts this year.

No trip near the ocean is complete until the boys have explored the fishing. When the water gets hot, the fish go deeper so they are harder to catch, says Adventure Guide Captain Bobby of Break-A-Way Charters. It’s still fun to be in the water – swim, snorkel – just have a good time. But fishing in the fall is the best. We went fishing on the east coast of Florida last Winter and it was not a disappointment. 13244683233_aa4c8acf99_z

I really wanted to Kayak when we went to Alaska this summer so this trip we will be joining Matt Godwin, owner of Off The Map Expeditions, on a  guided kayak trip through the mysterious Dead Lakes . In a kayak you are in control of how fast you go and it is great exercise after standing on a fishing boat all day. There is so much in Gulf County Florida.

I have seen baby turtles take the long journey to the ocean from their nests in the summer but in the Gulf Coast the season runs thru October. I would love to see it again but not before joining  Adventure Guide and passionate Bay explorer, Captain Gary Hites who owns Seahorse Water Safaris. You can take dolphin cruises as well as look for seahorses. Have you ever seen either in their natural habitat. What an amazing experience.

  3. A dolphin cruise would be an amazing experience! I’ve only been to Florida once a long time ago, but would love to go back.

  5. My children keep begging for a trip to Florida. That kayak trip looks so fun and relaxing. And we would just be so excited to see sea turtle in real life!
