HOW TO SET UP A LEMONADE STAND

Setting Up the Stand

  • The Structure: Use a sturdy child-size table, a couple of wooden crates topped with a board, or a decorated cardboard box. You can buy a professional lemonade stand if you plan on using it a lot. 
  •  

  • Eye-Catching Signage: Help your child write a clear, bold sign that says “LEMONADE” and lists the price (like 50¢ or 75¢).

  • Decorations: Add bright yellow balloons, streamers, or a potted basil plant for a fun, fresh touch.  Here are a few inexpensive decorations to jazz up your stand. 
  • LOCATION LOCATION: Pick a central spot that gets a lot of foot traffic. A perfect recipe won’t sell without foot traffic. Set up in central, high-visibility spots like a busy neighborhood sidewalk, near local parks, at a community garage sale, or close to local weekend activities. Make sure the area is safe, shaded, and fully supervised.

Running the Business

  • Keep it Simple: Price the cups so your kids can easily make change, or have an older helper nearby. 
  • Another option is Ask for donations instead of setting a specific price. 

  • Focus on Fun: Teach kids to greet customers and to say thank you after a transaction.
  • Rehearse “The Pitch”
    Many children feel initially shy talking to adults. Practice a simple, friendly “elevator speech” at home. Teach them to smile, greet everyone warmly, and confidently state their prices or the cause they are supporting

OTHER THINGS TO SELL BESIDES LEMONADE

 Upgrade the Inventory
Keep customers interested by offering more than just plain lemonade. Your kids can add a creative twist by offering a regular flavor and a “flavor of the day” (like pink lemonade or strawberry puree infusions).
 
You can also expand your reach by selling small snacks, cookies, or bottled water

Even though school is over I will continue to buy these for lunchtime. We often pack a lunch to bring to the pool over the summer. They’re the perfect size for a lunchtime snack. Even if they eat their dessert first, they will still have room for the other stuff. 

I always cringe when the kids are given the “snack” size cookies after a sporting event. Who needs 6 OREOs after a pee wee soccer game? You bet these will be coming to games as well. My son takes one with him as a treat after finishing swim team, or a tennis match. I am totally cool with that.

    My family and I love Oreo cookies. It’s great that they now come in a 2 pack. This will keep the Oreo cookies fresh as well as being a perfect snack size.

    In confess I love Oreos as much as my kids too. In fact, we have the S’Mores ones (S’Moreos) in the pantry right now and I may go grab one. Or two.

    Nice to know you can get these in a two-pack! Perfect for just about everyone, esp ppl like me who would tend to make a teeny snack about 6 cookies – no no no! and kids are just as happy with two as a plateful – and then their dinner isn’t ruined! and for me, so much better than being tempted by too many!
