My friend recently told me about a women was a victim of an attempted robbery in the middle of the day, outside a warehouse store near our homes. If that is not scary enough she said the only reason she probably was saved was that she had her dog in the car and a cell phone in her hand. Now this is too Close to Home. It also made me look into safety apps for our phones.

React Mobile, a new free app for iPhone and Android that helps to enhance personal safety. This app is well suited for families as a safety tool to help parents keep track of their kids. My daughter does not have a phone yet but I look forward to using this when she does. I have forwarded this website to my sister who works and her kids are supposed to be coming home on their own a few days a week.

How does our app work?  The app has a “Follow Me” feature, that let’s your self selected contacts track your whereabouts in real-time whenever you’re concerned for your safety. This feature is Perfect for running or walking alone early in the morning or late at night, keeping track of kids. Hopefully your kids will remember to  simply touch the “I’m Safe” button to let their parents  know when you’ve arrived at your destination safely.

In an emergency, press the SOS shield on the app to send out a panic alert containing a link to your GPS location to select emergency contacts via text message and email, which can optionally be posted to Facebook and Twitter. Once the SOS alert is activated, you’re automatically prompted to dial 911.

The SOS Feature would make me a little nervous if my kid or contact accidentally hit the button. Do not let your kids play with your phone if you have this app accessible you may just give someone a panic attack!
