Surprising Things You Can Make in a Rice Cooker

Thanks to Hamilton Beach for supplying us with a  Hamilton Beach Rice & Hot Cereal Cooker to share surprising things you can make in a rice cooker. We still have my husband’s rice cooker he had in his 20’s and strictly have only used it for rice.

Well after reading this post, your cooking world will be rocked, in fact, you may keep your rice cooker on top of your counter once you realize all the amazing things you can use it for. Imagine being able to make just about anything that you can in a Slow Cooker.

FEATURES OF THE Hamilton Beach Rice & Hot Cereal Cooker.

2-in-1 Rice Rinser/Steam Basket
Rinsing rice before cooking helps prevent clumping and creates a fresh taste. Now it’s simple to do with the included steam basket that doubles as a rice rinser. (To be honest, we have never rinsed our rice before but now will give it a try)

Ready When You Want It
Want to make oatmeal for a crowd but don’t want to get up too early? Now you can set your rice cooker and wake up to a warm pot of hearty oatmeal or come home after work to a simmering soup. The Delay Start feature lets you program cooking up to 15 hours in advance.

Use the Keep Warm setting to ensure your dish stays at the right temperature until you’re ready to serve it.

Preprogrammed Settings
Six different settings take the guesswork out of cooking. Choose from White Rice, Whole Grain, Heat/Simmer, Steam Cook and Hot Cereals. You don’t have to remember how long to set the timer with all the individual settings.

One Pot Cooking
Make dinner in one cooking cycle. Steam seafood, poultry or vegetables in the steam basket while the rice cooks. Or use the Heat/Simmer setting to make your own soups, beans or flavored pasta mixes. We made packaged vegetable risotto and steamed broccoli for a quick one-pot meal.

First, we added the water and risotto mix to the main compartment. This was a packaged Risotto Mix so simply follow the amounts of water there.

We added broccoli to the steamer basket and then set the timer. Both were done at the same time. If you prefer your veggies less cooked, I would add the broccoli half way thru the cooking process.
