As a mom of 3 school aged children children, a cat and dog and wife of a traveling husband, things can get hectic. If you add my time I spend working on my blog, my tennis team requirements (a luxury) and the 2 preschool enrichment classes I teach each week, time seems to fly by. And this is only the between the hours of 8 and 2:30. Once the kids get home from school, forget about doing anything for myself, there is homework, sports activities, projects and dinner. So how do I take a mom’s time out? Believe it or not I find a lot of relaxation in the kitchen but that is because I have kitchen tools that help with a lot of the work and find simple ways to indulge myself once in a while.

First I am going to share my top ten kitchen Utensils you must have and then I will share how include “Me Time” while in the kitchen.

  1. A Kitchen Aid Mixer-from cake mixes to bread dough they have you covered
  2. A Food Processor- shreds cheese to makes the perfect pesto
  3. Graduated glass bowls– perfect for easy prep
  4. Stainless Steel measuring cups and spoons
  5. Good sharp knives–I prefer Wustof Brand
  6. Assortment of wood and plastic cutting boards (I like to have one dedicated to onions, garlic)
  7. Assortment of glass or angled measuring cups
  8. Microplane Rasp– great for zesting and grating fine cheese
  9. Some sort of lemon/ lime juicer (I use a stainless steel one I put over a measuring cup)
  10. Cooking Tongs– multiple functions

I can’t spend all day in the kitchen and when I am feeling overwhelmed with life, I feel like I deserve a little indulgence. I am not talking about a trip to Paris or a spa but a little Skinny Cow® indulgence. Under distress, I crave all things chocolatey and just thinking about them makes me feel relaxed. I recently found some new  Skinny Cow® treats that have hit the bill for snacking in the kitchen and on the go.

When I do find the time to escape and put my feet up on a lovely spring day I love to grab one of
the  Skinny Cow® Vanilla Almond Crunch Bars – (pictured on top of post) and a few cookbooks. I really enjoy browsing cookbooks for ideas and inspiration. Weird to some I am sure. The impossibly indulgent Skinny Cow® Chocolate Dipped Ice Cream Bars feature three rich new flavors — including creamy Vanilla Almond Crunch, decadent Double Caramel Swirl and tempting Triple Chocolate Ripple. I just need to hide them from the kids:) (found in the frozen section)

In the kitchen or by the computer I can easily indulge with a creamy  Skinny Cow® Mocha Latte Creamy Iced Coffee . The Skinny Cow brand’s insanely indulgent Creamy Iced Coffee Drinks are a decadent blend of rich roasted coffee whipped with creamy milk. The beverages are now available in three delicious flavors: Vanilla Latte, Mocha Latte & Creamy Cappuccino in the refrigerated section in Walmart. They are the perfect single sizes to take with you. Now figuring out a way to hide the Skinny Cow® Blissful Truffle Candy Bars. These are  newest addition to the Skinny Cow line of indulgent chocolate candies. They come in both milk and dark chocolate. I went with the Dark Chocolate variety. I love that you can break the bars into little chocolately bites if you don’t want to eat it all at one time. (found in the candy section)  The perfect selection of snacks to keep me happy doing the thing I love, cooking.

I found all of these mom treats at Walmart.

I created this little Mom’s Time Out Box to stash my little treats and the kids won’t suspect a thing.

Simply use 2 plastic containers , with lids, that fit into each other. Make sure that they fit your Skinny Cow® Blissful Truffle Candy Bars or other Treats. Also be sure there is a little space between the 2 containers to fill in with the beans.

Just hot glue the smaller container into the larger one.

Secure the lid on top of the smaller container, and pour beans or rice to fill in the space and disguise the container.

Fill the container with your yummy treats and put the lids back on.

Anyone else would just think this is a container of Black Beans.

It is hard to remember to take care of ourselves, it does not take much to get a little me time. Take time each day to do something nice for yourself, even if it is just a moment of silence.
