This Post about Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie Recipe was updated from 11/13

I started making Bourbon Pecan pies when my husband started his interest in Bourbon. Although I would always get a crazy look when I went into the liquor cabinet and grabbed the bottle for this recipe.

Well as the kids get older we also have to start thinking about what the kids might get themselves into when we leave them home alone… well we have a few years but we want to set a good example early. I also wanted to show how easy it is to make a pecan pie.

What You need to a Make a CHOCOLATE BOURBON PECAN PIE

  • 1 cup of sugar (This last time I used 1/2 cup white and 1/2 cup brown sugar)
  • 1  9 inch pie shell-unbaked
  • 1/2 – 3/4 cup chopped pecan halves plus 1/4 cup pecan halves
  • 3 large eggs beaten
  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup of butter–softened
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon
  • 1/2 to 3/4 semisweet chocolate chips
(pecan and chocolate amounts depend on your taste. I tend to add more)

What type of crust do you use for a pecan pie?

I have no shame in using a frozen pie crust.  The pie crust should be unbaked when you add the filling.

I make 5 plus pies at Thanksgiving and it wouldn’t be possible if I was making crusts too.   Buy the best one you can afford because the crust does matter.

What kind of bourbon should I use for this chocolate pecan pie?

Anything in your cabinet.  I say that but you better ask the bourbon drinker in the house b/f you use that rare bourbon. We use Makers Mark Bourbon.

Can I double this pecan pie recipe?

I make two every year and I find making the recipe twice is the best way to get the right amount of filling in each pie. It is a super simple recipe so take the time to make it twice.  However, I do bake them together.

It will look like you have burned it but it will be just fine. The pecans on the top did get a little browner than I like but no one complained and we had no leftovers.
