Simple Dog Cupcake Recipe: Blueberry Dog Cake

Did you know National Dog Day is August 26th. Ironically Our golden retriever, Chloe’s birthday is the same day. So to celebrate a birthday day for dogs and National Dog Day, we made her another yummy homemade dog cupcake recipe.

A dog cake recipe? Yes! We believe in having fun and including Chloe, and this was a fun and silly way to celebrate her life.

If you have been reading this blog at all, you know she is one of the family and we often will pick travel destinations so we can bring her along.

While she is not new to homemade dog treats and homemade grain free dog cake , I picked a new DOG BIRTHDAY CUPCAKES Recipe to try for this birthday.  Simple Homemade Dog Cupcake Recipe: Blueberry Pupcakes

 She actually ate three of the four cupcakes before we could grab our neighbors’ dog over to come to celebrate. We will have to stop over and bring her boyfriend’s house some of this homemade dog cake.

This post contains affiliate links. I adapted the dog cake recipe I found on here and adapted the recipe to make only four cupcakes. I did not feel I needed 12 dog cupcakes, even though I know Chloe would have been excited about it..

How to Make Dog Cupcakes? 

The recipe is pretty simple and actually uses ground-up dog kibble. It is simple to make and we actually made and served it the same day.

Can you feed your Dog Blueberry Cake? 

Yes if the cake is not a human cake.  I love the addition of blueberries in this recipe. Like humans, Blueberries are a human food beneficial to our dogs as well.

How do I know if my homemade Cupcake Recipe is cooked?

Bake the dog cupcakes until they are light brown in color and when you stick a knife or toothpick to test it should come out clean.

What type of Frosting for a Blueberry Dog Cupcakes Recipe? 

Allow to cool and then frost. I used softened cream cheese with a few blueberries mixed in for our frosting.

Of course, I had to add a few more blueberries in the shape of a paw for fun.  All Dogs want a tasty doggie cupcake recipe to chomp on. 

Feel free to swap out peanut butter for this topping if your dog has any issues with dairy.

Homemade Dog Cupcakes: Blueberry Pupcakes

Make your dog these delicious blueberry dog cupcakes recipe., Yes homemade cupcake recipe for dogs. Its like serving blueberry muffins for dogs.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoon+ 2 Teaspoon ground dry dog food kibble, we used a ziploc bag and pounded it or a food processor to grind the kibble
  • 1/3 cup + 3 Tbsps whole wheat flour
  • 1 Teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup low-fat milk
  • 1/3 cup fresh blueberries or frozen ones that have been thawed, washed, and drained
  • 2 ounces light cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup fresh blueberries or frozen ones that have been thawed, washed, and drained
  • A few for the frosting and the rest to decorate your cupcakes

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Combine the ground dog food kibble , flour, baking powder in a medium bowl until thoroughly mixed. Add honey, eggs, milk and a cup of blueberries and mix until well combined.
  3. Grease or line muffin cups with paper baking cups. Bake until a cake tester or wooden skewer inserted in the center comes out clean, 15 to 20 minutes. Let the pupcakes cool on a cooling rack.
  4. Mix the softened cream cheese with 5 or 6 blueberries. Frost the pupcakes with a thin layer of whipped cream cheese and top with a few blueberries. Remove the paper baking cups before serving the pupcakes.
