If you an your family are water sports enthusiasts, then Callaway gardens may be the perfect place for you, as there are a few lakes to explore. The gardens contain some picturesque trails that won’t be too difficult, so that everyone can enjoy. There are many activities that will keep the kids occupied, walk around the butterfly gardens or adventurously zip line for great views. There’s also a spa and a few golf courses for adults to relax and unwind.

  1.    Chattahoochee National Forest

This national forest is ideal for a few days of camping, canoeing and hiking. Your family will enjoy being the serene settings, as you’ll be surrounded by rivers, waterfalls and an abundance of greenery.

Don’t be fooled by the name, Jekyll Island is worth a visit. The island was bought from private owners by the state of Georgia so that the public could enjoy it. It’s a beautiful spot for camping, picnics or even day trips to enjoy the coastline. Go in the summer so you can sunbathe and kids can enjoy chasing each other around.

Savannah is an alluring city bursting with fun things to do and see. Visit the historic squares and admire the numerous parks and stunning architecture. Fill up on some hearty southern food or enjoy a picnic in one of the parks. If you have young children and want to make touring the city easier, then you could try the hop on and off bus, which will take you around the city whilst the guide points out the main sights. If you prefer doing things at a leisurely pace than try out the walking tour instead.

The capital city of Atlanta couldn’t be kept off the list. The city is overflowing with activities that could keep your family occupied for a few days. If you’re culture vultures, then soak in the atmosphere at the Fox Theatre by watching a musical. The world of Coco-Cola chronicles the evolution of the household name. If your kids love Cola it will be a fun few hours for them, as it’s a very interactive environment. Visit the Georgia aquarium that houses a huge collection of various species that will surely astound you and your kids. For a peaceful day of walking, head to the Atlanta botanical gardens, admire the Japanese gardens, the orchard market and for the kids, there’s story time and garden play time.

One of my favorite family trip to Georgia is the coast.  Georgia’s coastline is dotted with islands that offer a variety of hotels and activities. Sea Island is a great place for you and your family to recuperate and relax; it’s more of a holiday experience. Stay at the Cloister resort for a luxury getaway, they offer pools, fine dining and a private beach. If you prefer something smaller and not right on the property , then there’s the lodge and an inn too.

  1. Indian Springs State Park

If your family loves the outdoors then this state park is a sure winner. It’s one of Georgia’s hidden gems and has a lot to offer. For accommodation you can reserve a spot at the campsite, alternatively, you can stay in one of the cottages. For activities, there’s the biking trail, which is about 3.25 miles and there are around 4 miles of hiking trails too. You can kayak on the river; fishing is also permitted but double check before you arrive. It’s a fun environment for the kids, as there are regular games, competitions and activities set up by the park to get everyone involved.

8.  Cloudland Canyon State Park

If you and your family love hiking then head up to Cloudland Canyon State Park. The park offers breathtaking views of the surrounding nature; it’s definitely a place to bring your camera so you can capture the beauty. Come prepared with your hiking gear, as there are a variety of trails to try out. The waterfall trail is a short and sweet hike of 2 miles, if you want a challenging hike there’s the Sitton Gulch Trail, which is 6 miles long.

  1.    Chateau Elan Winery And Resort

If you want a quiet weekend away with your family then this could be the perfect place, the chateau is reminiscent of French architecture and charm. Stroll through the vineyards and try some of the delectable wine whilst the kids enjoy the gardens.

  1.    Cumberland Island

You could easily spend a few days on this island, as there’s so much to do. To camp on the island, be sure to contact them in advance, otherwise there’s the Greyfield Inn. Get your heart racing by hiking, swimming or biking with your family. For some relaxing options you can fish, bird watch and star gaze by night.
