Graduation season is in full force right now. Colleges are just finishing up graduations and High School and Middle schools are starting to wrap up classes and Graduation will be upon us so quickly.
My daughter brought up the fact that for the next 5 years we will have 4 different graduations.
I need to get a little clever with my treat ideas. Since we don’t have family in town I don’t throw parties for elementary or middle school graduations. However, when high school graduation comes around, I better start planning. I still have 4 years for this.
In celebration of all those graduates in 2016, including my daughter who will be graduating 8th grade in a few weeks, I made these Yummy Graduation Hat Oreo Ball Treats.
Who can say no to an Oreo ball, it is crushed up OREOS with cream cheese covered in chocolate. Have some fun with me and make some Graduation Cap Pops for your graduation parties too.
Graduation Cap Oreo Ball Treats
I have made Cookie balls before and the process is the same, it is all about the coating and decorations that make these cookie balls something special for a Graduation Party treat.
Use cream cheese: Cream cheese helps bind the cake and Oreo crumbs together, creating a moist and flavorful mixture. Make sure the cream cheese is softened before mixing it with the cake crumbs to ensure it incorporates evenly.
Chill the mixture: After mixing the cake crumbs and cream cheese, chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Chilling makes the mixture easier to shape into balls and helps prevent them from falling apart when dipping in chocolate.
Double dip in chocolate: Once you’ve shaped the cake mixture into balls and inserted the sticks, dip them in melted chocolate and allow them to set. After the first layer of chocolate has set, dip them again for a smoother and more even coating. This double dipping technique adds a professional touch to your cake pops.
What you will need for these Graduation Cap Pops are simple.
Besides the Oreos and cream cheese, you will need to make grad hat cake pops
Mini Peanut Butter Cups
Chocolate chips
Yellow candy melts (or any color for the graduate)
white ball sprinkles
How to make chocolate graduation cake pops
First make and cool the oreo balls and double dip them in white chocolate
Shape the graduation caps for the cake pops:
While they harden make the graduation caps.
To create the graduation cap shape, you’ll need mini chocolate squares (for the caps), mini peanut butter cups (for the bases), and small squares of fruit leather or fondant (for the tassels). Gently press a mini peanut butter cup onto the top of each cake pop to act as the base of the cap.
Then, place a mini chocolate square on top of the peanut butter cup to form the cap. Insert a toothpick through the center of the chocolate square and into the cake pop to secure it in place.
Finally, attach a small square of fruit leather or fondant to the side of the chocolate square to represent the tassel.
We made a square template and just squeezed milk or dark chocolate to fill the squares onto parchment paper.
Add the small peanut butter cup while they are drying or use a dab of the chocolate for the caps.
Then carefully peel the chocolate squares off the parchment paper and attach with a dab of chocolate.
Place them in a vase filled with colored candies and lay the graduation caps around on a cake plate.
What a great centerpiece for any graduation party or event.
I took the display outside as well to see if how it would look for our outdoor graduation BBQ. Give them out as party favors too.
Congrats to all the grads this year and here is a Cookie graduation cap in your honor.
