I was having lunch with some girlfriends yesterday and one of the women had some photos of her daughter’s homecoming. All the girls dresses were above their knees and most were strapless or tank top. We were discussing the fashion of the 80’s and how we had most of our body covered when we were in high school and college. For those of you in that era, remember the Laura Ashley dresses? A flash back picture but you get the idea!
I was just at my college reunion this past weekend and that was even more of a shocker. Most of the girls had black dresses with cowboy boots. (they were wearing black for the football game our colors are black and gold). Well these were not your typical football dresses. If the wind came with any gusto I am sure they would have flashed the people behind them. How could they even sit on a steel bench at the game…I hate sitting on my leather car seats when they are hot when wearing shorts.
Find age appropriate Homecoming dresses- How fashion has changed over the years
Am I old fashion, or are the kids just leaving less for the imagination at a younger age? Wow I sound like my mother and grandmother.
My daughter is just starting to get cotillion dresses and fortunately we were able to borrow a bunch and they all seemed age appropriate. I worry about finding the right Homecoming dress in a few years. I recently found the site Dress First that has some dresses I would feel comfortable having my 14 year-old daughter wear to a high school Homecoming dance. They have multiple options from prom to mother of the bride dresses. I also like that most styles come in different colors so the chances you have the same dress as a friend is pretty rare.
If you watch Duck Dynasty you could appreciate the episode where Willie takes his daughter shopping for dresses and I feel the same way that nothing had enough fabric for his daughter. Unlike Willie, you can’t go to a store to dry the dresses from Dress First but they offer free shipping so order a few different styles. They also have shoes and accessories to complete your look.
So maybe I am getting too old, or the fashion is too progressive I just hope my daughter and I don’t clash too much when it comes to getting Homecoming dresses and Prom is another animal..
What styles do you feel are appropriate for a Homecoming Dance?
