It’s no secret that every year public school teachers are spending hundreds of their own dollars to buy supplies they need for their classrooms. Did you know that the average school teachers spend at least $500 out of their own pocket for supplies? SONIC saw this need and created Limeades for Learning as a way to help offset some of the teachers costs by providing funding for the supplies they need. The program is successful with the help of DonorsChoose.org, an organization dedicated to making it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. To date, SONIC has donated more than $7.5 million to public school teachers, funding more than 14,000 classroom projects and supporting more than 419,370 students. Be sure to enter the giveaway for a $50 Sonic Gift Card and $200 Donorschoose Gift Card to help your local schools.
How Sonic and DonorsChoose are improving public classrooms with Limeades for Learning
Recognizing public school teachers needed more support, SONIC Drive-In partnered with DonorsChoose.org ten years ago to come up with a solution. In 2009 SONIC launched Limeades for Learning.
Limeades for Learning® is a national award-winning initiative to support U.S. public school teachers in local communities.
There are now three periods in which SONIC makes $1 million donations to public schools:
- During the Fall Voting Campaign, which typically runs from late September through October
- Throughout the months of January through April during a series of surprise funding events in cities across the country – as an example, today SONIC funded 75 teacher projects from across the country in honor of National Handwriting Day
- Throughout the month of May during #ThanksTeach, a social media campaign encouraging consumers to thank their favorite teachers during Teacher Appreciation Month
With the help and support of our fans, by 2021 SONIC’s total contribution to local public school classrooms will exceed $20 million.
ARE YOU A TEACHER INTERESTED IN SUBMITTING YOUR OWN DONORSCHOOSE PROJECT?
Think up a project for your classroom, submit your project and your classroom will be eligible to receive SONIC funding!
Thanks to SONIC we were given a $200 gift card for DonorsChoose.org to pick a classroom to help. We wanted to choose a need in our community close to home so we searched for classrooms in the Richmond, VA area. While our neighborhood was not on here, we did find some within our county that were in need of help. We decided on helping out Franklin Military Academy build their soccer program. My kids all play soccer and have been on expensive travel programs. To think these kids don’t have access to jerseys was disappointing. From the teacher: “My students need soccer jerseys, more small goals for practice, and captain armbands so students are recognized for leadership.” We hope they get the extra $100 to complete this project.
Want to know where your money is going? No worries they provided an itemized list of the expenses and all projects need to be approved thru DonorsChoose
