Did you know  November 13 through 15 is PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend? If you have ever gone past a PetSmart and seen a large selection of dogs and cats available for adoption you might have seen this three-day adoption event. PetSmart Charities holds this event four times a year in North America.

What is even more fantastic is that on average, more than 15,000 companion pets find their forever home during each National Adoption Weekend. That is a lot of pets that are able to avoid shelters and get the loving home they need. Will you be attending one of these events next weekend? 

Have you ever seen this sticker on a car? I have heard so many stories of a rescue animal doing more good for their owner than they could have done for the animal.

Our family has rescued both the cats we have owned. Lacey, our current cat, was chosen for us but when I went to the SPCA in Chicago to find my first cat it is an amazing experience to look into these animals eyes and have to make a decision on which one to bring home. Fortunately for me, I was adopting near the holidays so the cats I was looking at were being adopted faster than normal. Lacey has become a true member of our family even though she was meant to be a barn cat. She is more of a dog than a cat and really loves the attention of all of our family members, except Chloe. Still working on that relationship. Who participates in National Adoption weekend? 

Several Animal welfare organizations, including local humane societies, will be on-site at PetSmart stores in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico with adoptable dogs and cats during the event. Each group sets its own adoption application policies and fees (which typically include spay/neuter surgery, vaccination, microchips, etc.), so it will vary among stores. Staff and volunteers from each location will be onsite throughout the event to assist with questions and the adoption process.

If you are on the fence and want to know if a particular type of animal will be available, your local store will be able to answer questions regarding exact event times and availability of specific types of pets.
