Route 66 Road Trip Snack Mix

This was a sponsored post about road trip snack mix in 2015.

In celebration of Post Honeycomb cereal is turning 50 this year and families hitting the roads for summer travel. We have created a fun snack mix recipe I am calling Route 66 Road Trip Mix.

Since 1965, Honeycomb’s one-of-a-kind playful shape and sweet honey taste have made the cereal a breakfast classic that is not only great in the bowl but also a flavorful addition to treats.

Honeycomb cereal is perfect for baking and creating, giving familiar types of recipes a whole new taste. When kids are stuck in the back seat of the car they are looking for a multitude of flavors to snack on.

HOW TO MAKE THIS SWEET ROAD TRIP SNACK MIX

If you have every made puppy chow mix this recipe is very similar but just adds a few extra ingredients to give kids flavors they are craving in the back seat of the car.

With the addition of peanuts and peanut butter, they get the protein they need plus the sweetness of the chocolate.

WHAT YOU NEED FOR A SWEET ROAD TRIP MIX

  • Cereal
  • Candy Coated Chocolate pieces
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Nuts
  • Peanut Butter

This could not be easier? Simply melt your chocolate and peanut butter mixture in the microwave until slightly melted and you can easily stir the mixture together.

Dump the chocolate peanut butter mixture into a plastic bag filled with cereal of choice. Be sure to get each piece of cereal coated.

Then add your powdered sugar and toss it in the bag until it is all coated as well.

I like to add the nuts and M & M’s now so they are visible in the mixture.

Pour onto a cookie sheet and allow to cool. Enjoy.
