Super Fun Sprinkles Funfetti Birthday Cake Recipe

WE UPDATED THIS SPRINKLE FUNFETTI OR CONFETTI BIRTHDAY CAKE SINCE IT WAS ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED IN 2014.

My youngest turned 8 earlier this month, for his birthday party we served these awesome Ice Cream Tacos.  He has a tough time making choices sometimes so when I asked him for his family birthday cake choice, he kept going back and forth.

I tried to have him look on Pinterest with me, and we finally came up with a combination that I think we all enjoyed, this Sprinkle Birthday Cake Recipe also known as a Confetti Cake Recipe. Basically a yellow cake recipe with added sprinkles and a white cream cheese frosting recipe.

I have made chocolate cake from scratch before but had never made a yellow cake so I adapted this 100 year old one bowl yellow cake recipe.    Next time I will use 8 inch pans instead of the 9 to get a higher cake.

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE A HOMEMADE CONFETTI CAKE

I told you this is easy, I did make mine a mixer just to make things simpler. But now you can add the fun sprinkles.

Divide your batter evenly among  the 2 pans. This cake looks so festive already. Feel free to use holiday related sprinkles too, for a special theme birthday cake idea.

I was glad the sprinkles did not stick to the bottom of the pan, which I started worrying about once they went in the oven. Once the cakes are cooled frost away and add some extra sprinkles if you dare!

TIPS FOR MAKING HOMEMADE BIRTHDAY CAKES LIKE THIS FUNFETTI CAKE

Making a confetti birthday cake is a fun and festive way to celebrate! Here are some tips to help you create a delightful confetti cake:

  1. Choose Your Cake Recipe: Start with a basic vanilla or white cake recipe. You want a light-colored cake that will showcase the colorful confetti.
  2. Prepare Your Confetti: You can use store-bought rainbow sprinkles or make your own custom confetti by chopping up colorful candies like M&M’s or Smarties. Make sure the pieces are small enough to mix evenly throughout the batter.
  3. Mix the Confetti: Fold the confetti into the cake batter gently to ensure it’s evenly distributed. Be careful not to overmix, or the colors may bleed into the batter.
  4. Use Parchment Paper: Line your cake pans with parchment paper to prevent the confetti from sinking to the bottom of the pan during baking.
  5. Evenly Distribute Batter: Divide the batter evenly between your cake pans to ensure your layers bake evenly.
  6. Bake Carefully: Follow the baking instructions carefully, and keep an eye on your cakes to avoid overbaking. Insert a toothpick into the center of the cakes; they’re done when it comes out clean.
  7. Let it Cool Completely: Allow your cakes to cool completely before removing them from the pans and frosting them. If you frost a warm cake, the frosting may melt or slide off.
  8. Frosting: Use a light-colored frosting such as vanilla or cream cheese frosting to allow the confetti to stand out. You can also add some extra sprinkles on top for decoration.
  9. Layer and Frost: Once your cakes are cooled, layer them with frosting between each layer. Then, frost the outside of the cake evenly.
  10. Decorate: After frosting, you can add additional sprinkles or confetti on top of the cake for decoration. You can also add candles or other cake toppers to personalize it for the birthday celebration.
  11. Chill Before Serving: For best results, chill the cake in the refrigerator for about an hour before serving. This helps the frosting set and makes it easier to slice.
  12. Enjoy! Once chilled, slice and serve your confetti birthday cake to delight your guests with its colorful surprise inside.

Making homemade cakes really are not that hard, and I think it turned out to be pretty festive, don’t you? A homemade Funfetti cake that you can personalize for your special person or team.
