Primanti’s Brothers

Known for their amazing sandwiches, or meal in a sandwich, your kid’s bellies will be full. These are pretty big sandwiches and I would recommend sharing one to start.

If there is still an appetite, you can stroll around the Strip District for a snack or just order another sandwich. What makes this sandwich unique: White Italian bread is filled with meat and cheeses of choice, French fries, and cold slaw.

Open up wide, this is a big sandwich looking for a big appetite.

Kelly O’s Diner

There is nothing better than fueling up for breakfast before exploring a new city. Kelly O’s Dinner did not disappoint. From freshly squeezed orange juice to a large breakfast menu, everyone no matter how old will come out of there satisfied. This is a locally owned restaurant and we had the pleasure of meeting Kelly herself. What a great story and great food. I love supporting local businesses like this and what better way than eating a delicious breakfast.

Hofbrauhaus Pittsburgh

Can’t make it to Munich? No worries, step to the river banks of Pittsburgh and you feel like you landed at a Bier Garden abroad. The Hofbrau Haus did not disappoint for adults or kids. With an amazing view of the river, great beer and good food everyone was happy.

Most summer nights, the gravel area below the restaurant is open where kids can run around on the grassy area, another bonus when parents want to have a relaxing dinner.

The menu features traditional German entrees to kid-friendly dishes. Don’t skip the pretzel appetizers, There is nothing like a big pretzel with a cold beer on a summer night.

While we sat outside, the inside of the restaurant is where the live music is and has more of a German beer garden atmosphere.

Milk Shake Factory

Kids can always find room in their dessert bellies for a cold milkshake. Don’t miss a milkshake or homemade chocolates at the Milk Shake Factory. You can choose from a traditional shake to a more gourmet flavor. They even have dairy free shakes, I had one and I could not tell the difference.

Waffles Incaffeinated

Kids love waffles, at least mine do. How about a restaurant where you can get just about any type of waffle you wish. The menu consists of many different flavor combinations as well as a build your own waffle. If you are not that hungry, you can order a half of a waffle. Coffee and waffles is a great way to start the day.

I had the dessert waffle which was half of the entree waffle and ordered their chicken sausages as aside. My son ordered The Funky Monkey Waffle, one of their classics. There was not a crumb on his plate.

The Porch

If you are exploring PITT or the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, take a stroll to The Porch. Start with a cast iron pan full of their cinnamon rolls or biscuits. Decadent but a great appetizer if you ask me! Another kid friendly restaurant near the green space where the kids can run around if you are sitting outside.

The kale salad was tasty and I love the presentation of the sheet pan pizza. These personal pizzas were definitely big enough to share.
