Cookies and Cream Puppy Chow Recipe (Muddy Buddy)

I am sure if you have not made them, you have at least tasted Puppy Chow or Muddy Buddy snack mix.   You know the peanut butter and cereal mixture that is covered with powdered sugar.

We have made a few variations and each one tastes better.  Puppy chow, also typically known as monkey munch, muddy buddies, muddy munch, or reindeer chow.

For swim coach appreciation week, I decided to treat our awesome swim coaches with a new variation of puppy chow mix.  Everyone loves Oreos so why not make cookies and cream Puppy Chow mix?  It is simple, can be made a day ahead and the perfect snack to eat while coaching.

What you Need for Cookies and Cream Puppy Chow

  • 10 C. Rice/corn cereal such as Crispix or Chex
  • 1 C. White Almond Bark (Chopped)
  • 1 Cup Chocolate Almond Bark (Chopped)
  • 1 Package Oreo Cookies
  • 1 C. powdered sugar

The ingredients are simple. You can find almond bark in the baking section of your grocery store.  If you can not find it, you can use milk and white chocolate chips.  Just be careful not to overheat the chips, especially the white chips.

Cut up the almond bark before attempting to melt them in the microwave. It will melt more easily and quicker.

Toss the melted chocolate with the cereal of choice.  Just be careful not to use too much pressure as the cereal will crush and it just doesn’t taste that good.

Next is the fun part that the kids can help with.  Pour the chocolate covered cereal into the bag of crushed cookies and powdered sugar.

Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and allow it to cool while you make the second half of the recipe.  Repeating the steps but using different chocolate.

Can you see the cookies and the cream side?

Still not done yet.  Not that you have started a sweat yet but this is the part that makes it officially a cookie and cream puppy chow recipe. Add chopped Oreos and mix the two flavors together.

What is the best way to store Puppy Chow?

If not eating right away, be sure to store in an airtight container.  Since it was warm and humid outside, I stored this in the fridge overnight.
