Do you ever go away with just one of your kids? Recently I took a mother son trip to Massanutten Resort to explore all the summer amenities they had to offer. This four season resort might be well known for its winter sports and large indoor/outdoor water park but we found so much more to fill two tween boys days. Thanks to Massanutten for taking care of our accommodations, and activities and providing us with a gift card to explore the resort amenities in the summer.
Accommodations:
There are hotels, homes, condos and timeshare properties throughout the expansive Massanutten resort. We had the privilege of staying in one of their brand new timeshare homes. A four bedroom, four bathroom and two kitchen home. The Regal Vistas neighborhood opened in 2009 and it is still adding these style homes. Hardwood floors, nice kitchen appliances and bright and airy decor made these accommodations the perfect summer getaway. While Regal Vistas can be purchased as a time share, you can also rent these accommodations if you are not an owner, just call reservations to inquire.
Your family or families can easily spread out during your stay but also find enough space to spend time together.
Year Round Activities at Massanutten Resort
These are in no order of preference just the order we experienced them. Ski Resorts are great places to visit during the offseason.
Hiking: There are several different hikes you can take and they are all described in the Massanutten My Guide. Be sure to check the weather before going on any hike!
Water Park: There is both an indoor and outdoor portion of the Massanutten Water Park. My tweens wished there was more to do outside like more slides or a lazy river portion. Be sure to check our post on how to survive water parks with kids!
The water park is going to be closed for several weeks during September for renovations. There was definitely some spots that needed some fresh paint. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
Non-Water Park Activities a Massanutten:
Recreation Centers: There are a couple recreation centers around the resort you have access to with your accommodations thru Massanutten. Depending on the location you choose to visit will find indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, pickleball courts, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, arcades and more.
Miniature Golf, Bungee and Bumper Cars are also near the miniature golf center.
Family Adventure Park: Consider buying a pass to save money on multiple activities.
- Mega Zipline
- Rock Wall
- Tubing
- High Ropes Course
- Kids Adventure Park
- Gem Mining
Fishing: There are two ponds you have fishing access. Be sure to pick up any licenses and permits from the General Store.
Other Activities At Massanutten:
When you check in, be sure to get the weekly schedule of activities offered at the resort. You can find fitness classes, craft classes, child camps, and many other activities both free and for a nominal fee. Our advice is to sit down with your family as soon as you check in to your room and look over the activity schedule so you don’t miss something you were excited to try. Not all the activities are available every day, in fact, the weekdays had more than the weekends,
DINING:
We brought food for breakfast, lunch, and snacks and decided to eat dinner at the Massanutten Restaurants. We chose Base Camp one night and Campfire Grill, the second night. Both restaurants had indoor/outdoor seating which came in handy our first night when it rained. There are great beverage and food choices for everyone and the prices were reasonable considering you are at a ski resort.
It was just so nice to get one more vacation weekend before school starts. Outside all the activities there are, I truly enjoyed grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting on the deck enjoying the view.
