What to fill premade phyllo cups with
The other weekend I was sitting at my son’s basketball game when I realized I needed to bring a dessert to a party that evening. Not being prepared at all, I was a little stunned. I would have to buy something instead of making a dessert.
However, after browsing the bakery aisle I was reminded of a dessert I had made many years ago that will take only a few minutes to put together. Last minute desserts were a crowd pleaser too.
What you need to make these last-minute quick caramel desserts
All you need is to pick up some
- Phyllo cups
- a can of dulce de leche
- chocolate chips
- Chopped nuts (optional but recommended)
I told you this is going to be easy. I have found that these phyllo cups are now coming already baked which cuts your time down as well.
Ok now the hard part…. LOL
Add a dollop of the dulce de leche into each baked phyllo pastry cup. (Follow the baking directions on the package) I found keeping them in the plastic trays was very easy.
While you are doing this, melt 1 cup of double chocolate morsels. (I used Ghiradelli extra dark as I had that on hand)
Then spoon some chocolate over the Dulce de leche or caramel.
Top with nuts and allow the chocolate to set.
This could not be simpler. I placed my trays into the freezer for a few minutes to set.
Can I fill phyllo cups ahead of time
The best thing about this last-minute dessert idea is that it is also a make-ahead dessert recipe. You can make these cups and once they have set, cover them with some saran wrap and keep in the freezer until you are ready to serve them.
I purchased some bakery goods as well and made my platter for the party. I did notice the macaroons were still on the platter and these Caramel-Chocolate tartlets were all gone.
What else can I make with canned Dulce De Leche
